Dermatology Services

Dr. Nathanael Armstrong performs dermatological minor surgery procedures, including mole and skin tag excisions, and removal of non-cancerous growths. While the procedures themselves will not differ from what a highly trained MD would perform, he additionally provides a holistic perspective and natural care to aid in a swift recovery.

Additionally, Reboot Center providers treat a myriad of other skin conditions, including (but not limited to):

Acne

A skin condition that occurs when hair follicles plug with oil and dead skin cells. Acne is most common in teenagers and young adults, and can be due to dietary challenges, hormonal fluctuations, or other underlying imbalances. Symptoms range from “blackheads” to pus-filled pimples or large, red, and tender bumps.

Alopecia (Hair Loss)

Sudden hair loss that starts with one or more circular bald patches that may overlap. Alopecia areata occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles, and may be brought on by severe stress, nutritional deficiencies, and toxic exposure.

Bacterial infections

Pathogenic bacteria contribute to globally important diseases such as tuberculosis and pneumonia, which can be caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus and Pseudomonas, and food-borne illnesses, which can be caused by bacteria such as Shigella, Campylobacter, and Salmonella.

Dry Skin

Xeroderma or xerodermia, derived from the Greek words for “dry skin”, is a condition involving the integumentary system, and often benefits from a close look at a person’s nutritional and hormonal status.

Eczema

Dermatitis, also known as eczema, is inflammation of the skin. It is characterized by itchy, erythematous, vesicular, weeping, and crusting patches. The term eczema is also commonly used to describe atopic dermatitis, and responds beautifully to integrative treatment, which goes beyond the standard topical prescription.

Fungal infections

A fungus that invades the tissue can cause a disease that’s confined to the skin, spreads into tissue, bones, and organs, or affects the whole body. Symptoms depend on the area affected, but can include skin rash and vaginal infection.

Genital Warts

Genital warts are a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), and typically present as small bumps on the genitals.

Herpes Simplex

Herpes simplex, also known as genital herpes or cold sores, is a virus infection that most often affects the region around the mouth and genitals. Herpes simplex is a common sexually transmitted infection marked by pain and contagious sores. At Reboot Center, immune supportive treatment, at times accompanied by pharmaceutical antiviral prescriptions, is the primary therapy for this condition.

Herpes Zoster

Herpes Zoster, also known as shingles, may appear as a painful rash in a localized area of the body.

Hives

Hives are a fairly common condition usually triggered by foods, medications, stress, sun exposure, and other things. Symptoms include itchy, raised, red, or skin-colored welts on the skin’s surface.

Microbial Skin Diseases

Infections of the skin that can be caused by bacteria, fungus, viruses, or parasites. Microbial skin diseases can include pimples, abscess, cellulitis, warts, ringworms (scalp and body), scabies and impetigo.

Nail Diseases

Nail diseases are distinct from diseases of the skin. Although nails are a skin appendage, they have their own signs and symptoms which may relate to other medical conditions. Nail conditions that show signs of infection or inflammation require medical assistance. Deformity or disease of the nails may be referred to as onychosis.

Pimples

Acne is a skin condition common in teenagers and young adults. Symptoms range from non-inflamed “blackheads” to pus-filled pimples or large, red, and tender bumps.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is considered an autoimmune condition, thought to be due to GI, immune, and/or other systemic challenges. Triggers may include infections, stress, and cold. The most common symptom is a scaly skin rash that is often on the outer parts of joints but can affect other areas as well.

Psoriatic Arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis is a type of inflammatory arthritis. Symptoms include joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, which may flare and subside. Many people with the condition are affected by morning stiffness. Even mild skin psoriasis can have a significant degree of arthritic involvement.

Rosacea

Rosacea most commonly affects middle-aged women. It can be mistaken for acne or other skin conditions. Key symptoms are facial redness with swollen red bumps and small visible blood vessels.

Scalp Conditions

Hypopituitarism, or an underactive pituitary gland, can cause hair loss. Lichen planus is a skin condition that can cause hair loss, as well as discoloration of the scalp. Celiac disease is an allergy to gluten, and can cause hair loss. Systemic lupus erythematosus (aka. Lupus or SLE) is an autoimmune disorder that can cause hair loss.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Protection from ultraviolet (UV) radiation is important all year round, not just during the summer or at the beach. UV rays from the sun can reach you on cloudy and hazy days, as well as bright and sunny days. There are a variety of “healthy” sun blocks available that are effective in protecting against UV radiation, which are recommended in addition to individualized skin health-specific treatments, by our Reboot Center providers.

Viral Infections

A viral infection occurs when an organism’s body is challenged by one or more pathogenic viruses.
